Struggling to find consistent affordable support for ADHD?
My name is Madison Backer, and I am the new intern at ADHD Counseling in the Roanoke Valley. I am a second-year Master’s student at Virginia Tech’s Counselor Education Program hosted in Roanoke.
I have always been passionate about ADHD-related care, having grown up with a sibling diagnosed with ADHD when he was young. Watching my parents struggle to find the best way to support my brother through therapy, medication, school accommodations, and more made me realize how misunderstood he and all ADHDers are. I spent years being on his team trying to find solutions and mend strained relationships that developed from him being instructed to do things like “normal people.” Working at this practice has revealed many more obstacles to ADHDers and their families and how they might be helped, but more importantly, it has shone a light on an ADHDer’s strengths, or Superpowers, “normal people” just don’t have.Whether you relate more to my parents, my brother, or myself, we will work together to find a happier, healthier, more hopeful place.
Let’s learn how to manage your ADHD and find your strengths, so you can not just survive, but thrive with your ADHD.
